PROJECT DETAILS
As part of Penn Trails five-year countywide design & planning contract with the Department of Recreation & Parks of Howard County, early planning through detail design was completed for this 1,250 foot universal access trail. Traversing sensitive wetland and floodplain areas, extensive boardwalks and elevated aggregate trails were specified, adhering to universal access standards to ensure that the broadest population of users could enjoy the trail safely. The project began with Penn Trails’ signature field assessment process and preliminary opinion of cost before moving to detail design and construction documentation. This step-by-step process ensures that the design responds to the site in a way that is environmentally and economically sustainable.
7 years after project conception, construction began in Summer of 2021 and was completed in Fall of 2022. Penn Trails worked with the project team to provide Project and Construction Management services and was heavily involved in every stage of construction to ensure that the final trail reflected the project goals and specifications.
