When animal-loving private landowners approached Penn Trails, they had an unusual request: could we design a trail for them to walk their menagerie of rescued animals, including dogs, goats, and pigs?

In order to accomodate the owner request for a trail to enable social recreation with their furry family, the trail was conceptualized to be wider than a typical singletrack walking path. While completing field design, it became clear that upgrading the design to accommodate UTVs would also allow the owners to better access and manage their woodlot, which had some stunning high quality trees but also was heavily overgrown with invasive plant species. What resulted was a quarter-mile loop of compacted native soil built over the course of three weeks in September 2022.
