PROJECT DETAILS

Penn Trails worked with Wave Hill in 2021 to assess a 3,530 linear-foot trail system through the woodland garden. Managed separately  from the formal gardens, the woodland garden still receives heavy use and was showing severe deterioration in areas.  Trail assessment efforts utilizing Penn Trails’ state-of-the-art GIS data dictionary to pinpoint areas in need of maintenance and provide a detailed work plan for enhancing the trail. By breaking work into categorized based on intensity, the trail assessment outlined ways to phase and structure the work in order to best balance staffing resources, funding, and trail closures.

Station logs were generated outlining every area for maintenance and repair along the trail, allowing for accurate cost estimation.

Penn Trails also provided staff training in the basics of trail design and construction to equip the crew to complete the suggested maintenance.
